Hawa Touré , Youth and Volunteer Recruiter

Hawa Touré was born in Elizabeth NJ; her family is from Guinea Conakry. When she was three, she moved to Guinea. She came back to the United States when I was nine, and moved to Maryland when she was 13 years old. She first heard about Gandhi Brigade, the beginning of her junior year in high school through by her mentor Gina Smallwood. She is one of the original members of Gandhi Brigade. She started attending their meetings in the fall of 2005.

Hawa says, "The thing that kept me coming back to Gandhi brigade was the fact that they used the magic of video to promote and deal with the issues in their community." Addressing the issues that affect her community is something that she has always been interested in.

Since joining Gandhi Brigade, she has found media as a medium to address and bring awareness to the issues in the community that are important to her as a youth. Being part of Gandhi Brigade has prepared her with technical skills that have helped her communicate her ideas with different people.
